Kathy Pisaro

Dr. Kathryn Pisaro is busy as both an oboist and a music historian. She received a Certificate in Performance from the California Institute of the Arts and a Ph.D. in music history from Northwestern University. She has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti, Ray Charles, Garth Brooks, the Moody Blues, and in numerous Broadway touring productions including Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Showboat and Cabaret. As a musicologist, she has presented papers on music history at national and international conferences, as well as writing articles for the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 2nd edition, the International Double Reed Society Journal and Musicworks magazine. She is currently teaching music history at the California Institute of the Arts and has a private teaching studio. Her playing can be heard on Plate Tec Tonic Records with the rock group Poi Dog Pondering, Edition Wandeweiser, Gravity Wave, and City Lights Music with the City Lights Jazz Orchestra.
