Jason Martinez
2007 Concerto Winner

Jason is eighteen years old and currently attends Los Angeles Pierce College. He has been playing the viola for almost five years, most of which he has been a student of Beth Elliott and a member of the Kadima Conservatory Philharmonic Orchestra. Jason is currently the principal violist for KCP. He was the recipient of the Jack Kesselman Award in 2004. At Van Nuys High he was in the orchestra for his ninth and tenth grade years. He began playing Baritone Saxophone with the Van Nuys High School marching band in the beginning of his eleventh grade year.

Currently, he makes music at Pierce with the Symphonic Winds, the Jazz band and of course, here at Kadima.

Jason will be going on tour to Munich, Vienna, Schladming, and Budapest with the L.A. Winds on July 8th. He will be continuing his studies in music theory in the fall. He plans to make music for the rest of his life.

Elizabeth Chavez
Elizabeth Chavez
2007 Concerto Winner

Elizabeth started playing the violin when she was 10 years old, and has been playing for 4 years. She has been involved with the Kadima Conservatory of Music for almost 3 years now. In the summer of 2005, Elizabeth was honored to receive the Jeremy Charles Phillips Scholarship, and since then has had the privilege of studying with Yi-Huan Zhao, and has served as the principal 2nd violinist for the Kadima Conservatory Philharmonic.

Along with the violin, Elizabeth also enjoys singing and acting. She has been involved in musical theatre since she was 8 years old. Her latest experience includes acting/stage-managing the Music Box, LBF productions for over a year, and also occasionally helping out backstage with the theatre club (Valley Collegiate Players) at Los Angeles Valley College. Elizabeth has just recently made her professional debut as an actress with MTG (Musical Theatre Guild) in their production of Street Scene, having the pleasure of performing at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, and the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks.

During Elizabeth's spare time she likes to play the piano. She enjoys making music in any way she can, and she doesn't ever plan on stopping! Elizabeth feels very fortunate to be a part of and playing with such a wonderful group of musicians, and would like to thank Yi-Huan for being the amazing teacher that he is. And she would also like to thank her family and friends for all of their support!
